All of the information on this website comes from public sources, including requests made to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department under Indiana’s Access to Public Records Act.
IMPD refuses to fulfill or deny records requests for several months, while keeping us in the dark about why or when we might expect to receive any response. This practice is a violation of state law, which was confirmed by the State of Indiana Public Access Counselor in Opinion of the Public Access Counselor, 26-FC-64, an advisory opinion issued in response to a complaint we filed against IMPD about this problem.
At the same time, IMPD has removed information from the OpenIndy Data Portal that we previously used to link individual officers to their history of violence in the community, including use of force and shootings. We are always pursuing new ways to keep this information available to the people of Indianapolis. We will not IMPD’s attempts to cover up their officers’ violence succeed.
